Courses

Courses offered at the String Project:

  • Early Childhood Music

Provide a stimulating musical experience for your child through the use of folk songs, bounces and chants. This course will explore and implement the First Steps in Music for Infants and Toddlers by Dr. John Feierabend, an internationally known expert of early childhood music education.

Little Ones – Ages 3 to 4 1/2 years

Early Learners – Ages 4 1/2 to 6 years – Prepare your child for instrument readiness with games and activities in a caring and musically nourishing environment.

  • Suzuki Violin

Each beginning – 5 to 7 year old student and a parent will meet weekly in a group with 2 to 4 other beginning 5 to 7 year old students with parents. Each parent receives an individual "private" lesson each week until the child is eager to study, at which time the parent serves as home teacher between the child's weekly lessons with the professional teacher.

  • Full Program - Older beginning and advancing students may elect to follow a four-week rotation of private and group lessons. Three weeks out of four, each student receives private lessons with a personally chosen teacher. During the fourth week of the rotation the student meets with other students of similar ages and experience for a group lesson. In addition to the four-week rotation, a group lesson is scheduled one Sunday afternoon each month during which ALL students arrive on a staggered basis and rehearse the music being prepared for a performance. The folk and fiddle tunes as espoused by American pedagogue and concert violinist Mark O'Connor are included in the repertoire of CCSP.

  • Traditional Study – Each student receives a private lesson once or twice a week as arranged with his/her teacher. All students will have a chance to play a solo or a duet in recital at least once during the academic year. Adults of any age and ability may enroll for private study.

  • Group Study – Groups of 4 or more students may be formed to enhance the learning experience. Groups must be of similar ability as determined by audition. Performances may be scheduled in the local area to provide additional experience.

  • Chamber Music - Chamber Music is included in the regular course of study. Special chamber music groups are formed and coached upon request.

  • Flute Instruction - Individual instruction for students at any level of advancement. Placement level to be discussed with instructor.

  • Piano Instruction – Individual Instruction for students at any level of advancement. Placement level to be discussed with instructor.

Recital / Auditions – Recitals are scheduled each semester which give all students a goal to work toward and parents, family and friends a chance to enjoy their accomplishments.

In addition to the CCSP recitals, students are assisted in their preparation for All-County and All-State competitions.

Instruments & Supplies – Each student must provide his or her own instrument. Ask about our instrument rental program through Menchey Music Service.

Tuition and Fees – Charges for music study are billed as tuition rather than as a fee per service. The cost per 1/2 hour of private study is $25.00 but the exact amount will be determined by the course of study chosen. Tuition is determined for the semester and billed at the time of registration. A discount is offered for early payment of full tuition. Additional fees are charged for late payment. Needs based scholarships may be available for qualified students.  Please contact the Executive Director with questions.

JoeyDCares Orchestra – Join Mr. Joe Dundore in his new community rock band orchestra.  String musicians are needed. Three sessions during the year. Performances are planned in the community to raise money for non-profit organizations. Come join the fun! Contact Joe Dundore at jrdundo@carrollk12.org/
